There is a lot of conjecture about who Trump will choose as his running mate. My choice is Admiral William McRaven, the man who led the Navy Seal raid on Osama Ben Laden's outpost, and the former Commander of the Pentagon's Special Operations Forces.
McRaven is a retired military leader of the highest caliber, a man who is a leader of men, and the kind of experienced, disciplined and rational military expert this country needs to complete the eradication of the scourge of Islamic terrorism currently expanding around the globe. He would bring a sober and focused sense of urgency to the Washington aristocracy. Regarding the perversity and seriousness of the Jihadi threats and the paralysis of our military by political correctness, McRaven said: "During my past several years in uniform, I watched in disbelief how lawmakers treated the chairman, the service chiefs, the combatant commanders and other senior officers during Congressional testimony. These officers were men of incredible integrity, and yet some lawmakers showed no respect for their decades of service. I saw the DOD Inspector General's Office frequently act as judge and jury, apparently accountable to no one, dismissing the recommendations of the services and ruining officer's careers. I watched time and again how political correctness and pressure from Capitol Hill undermined command authority and good order and discipline." As Vice President, his experience and record would put the world on notice that America is willing to step up and lead the war against barbarism. And he could also redefine the role, making it a much more proactive, functional and international position that would allow the President to focus more on the domestic side of our country's many needs. In his famous graduation address to the University of Texas Austin, he pointed out the ten things he thinks make people more effective, and it all starts with making your bed every morning. This is a perfect example of what all of us Americans need to do to get our country back on track, to personally offer support for the hard work of self government and living in a state of freedom. This is the kind of specific things that will be required to revitalize the concept of Americanism. I think his brand of serious teamwork, would put the oft noted image of Trump as a selfish, arrogant and unprepared candidate, in an entirely different light. McRaven is someone who would not overshadow Trump, because as a longtime military man, he knows something about rank and protocol. And, more importantly, he knows how important it is to work together to achieve goals. America has a very big challenge: we must reestablish a patriotic zeal in our youth, reinvigorate a disengaged and self absorbed generation of boomers, and lead a talented but confused generation of X'ers and millennials. This is exactly what McRaven has been doing for the past 30 years! So before we go any further, I urge Donald Trump to invite Navy Admiral Bill McRaven aboard his campaign to make America great again. Lets get started, let's make our bed. |
